Overview of the itinerary

Day 1: Murchison falls National Park-Hike to the top of the fall

After your early morning breakfast, the driver guide will pick you at exactly 7:00am and be briefed of your 3 days tour to the famous Murchison falls National Park program.

We shall have a stopover in Luwero District to pick a couple of fruits, that is to say oranges, pineapples, passion fruits and jackfruits. Then proceed to Masindi town for our lunch at Masindi Hotel / Court View Hotel.

After lunch, then drive out of Masindi town to a dirt road for about 20 minutes before arriving at Kichumbanyobo gate. The fun begins afresh as we enter the Park premises as a variety of animals are at our exposure.

Kichumbanyobo Gate, Murchison Falls NP

You are immediately ushered into the Murchison by a number of stubborn baboons lining up along the road. They grapple about anticipating for some goodies, ensure the windscreens are up or else they will snatch anything inviting from the car.

Continue the drive as you savour the beautiful landscape while occasionally sighting of warthogs and other wildlife. The sightings at the top are breath taking.

About 300 – 400 cubic meters per second of Nile water force through a tiny gorge of about 7 meters to plunge into a violent tempest in a whirlpool of about 42 meters below. It is such a beautiful sight with incredible picture moments.

After the hike drive to your lodge and check in for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Game Drive through the park and Boat Ride at the Victoria Nile

After your early morning breakfast at around 6:30am, our driver guide together with the game ranger will pick you up at 7:00am for the early game drive.

The early game drive is a better time for the great sightings of the nocturnal animals and hunters before they return to their hideouts as well as the early risers.

The Park is bisected into two sections by Victoria Nile; the south and Northern sector. For game viewing, game safaris are always carried out in the North.

If your reserved lodge is found in the southern section, you will get to the ferry crossing on the Northern side for your game drive package.

Explore the major game trails especially around the area of Paraa for good game spotting including lots of elephants, lions, giraffes, antelopes, Jackals, hyenas, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, Jackson’s Hartebeests and hopefully the elusive leopards among others.

At around 11:30am you return back to the lodge for your lunch and some relaxation for an indefinitely short time. Later we set out for the afternoon Boat Ride on the Victoria Nile which is the high spot of any Murchison Falls Safari, for you get to spot lots of animals at a close encounter.

You will have to spot lots of hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffalos, and many other animals that come to drink water, refresh and cool themselves off the scorching sun and some animals to eat the fresh grass along the river banks.

The Nile is also a birds’ magnet. The ride takes you close to the base of the Murchison Falls and here you are treated to yet another sight of these lovely falls. You will also be shown the crush point of Ernest Hemingway.

Meal Plan – Full Board (breakfast, lunch and dinner).

Day 3: Game Drive through the park and head to Queen Elizabeth National

Wake up early morning and get prepared for another Game Drive through the park, expecting to increase your game count and spot more other wildlife as we drive out of the park while heading to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The drive will take us through the rolling hills of Uganda rural and urban centers to get to our dream land. You can’t avoid smiling as the local people will be waving farewell. The architect designs, landscape and vegetation are some of the attractions to look out for. After arrival, you will relax from the long drive and prepare for tomorrow’s activities.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is the oldest and second largest in Uganda after Murchison Falls National Park. It covers an area of 1978 squared Kilometers with over 95 mammal species and 612 bird species compared to any other Park in Uganda. It is also ranked the first in Africa with the widest range or big population of birds. The park is famously known for the tree climbing Lions in Ishasha, volcanic explosion craters among which is ranked the second beautiful crater in the world by National Geographic Wild.

Kazinga Channel is well known for big numbers of mammal species at a closer range, most especially crocodiles, Hippos, Giant Forest Hogs, Elephants and Buffalos, to mention but a few. The channel is also known to be one of the longest Natural channels in the world with a stretch of 40 Kilometers.

Overview of the itinerary

Day 4: Game drive through the Park and Boat cruise

Wake up early in the morning and have morning coffee then set off for the morning Game drive at 6:30 AM. The morning game safari is highly recommended because most nocturnal can still be active. This therefore increases chances of viewing Lions, Leopards, Hyenas and other animals like Elephants, Buffalos, Waterbucks, Giant forest hogs and more.

The drive will take 3-4 hours and return for breakfast at the Lodge.

In the Afternoon at 3:00 PM, you will set off for the boat cruise at Kazinga Channel. The cruise will take you at a closer range of less than 5 meters with animals like Hippos, Elephants, Giant Forest Hogs, Buffalos, crocodiles and various bird species.

Later in the Evening, you will go for a crater drive. This will include Katwe Salt Lake, Munyanyange crater that is famously known for harboring big numbers of migrant flamingos, Kamengo crater that is recognized as the second beautiful crater in the World, Lake Nyamununka which is always a gathering place for sick animals. The drive will also takes us to the highest point of the Park, view beautiful sceneries of different vegetation covers within the same perimeters and of course a glance at a few mammals like Olive Baboons, vervet monkeys and Water bucks.

Late in the evening, retire to the Lodge.

Day 5-Full Day Game drive in Ishasha (Tree climbing Lions)

Wake up in the morning, have breakfast and drive off at 7:00 AM. The drive takes 2-3 hours depending on the stoppage points. Along the way towards the South, animals like Elephants, Waterbucks, Warthogs, Kobs, Topis, Buffalos and Hyenas can be encountered.

On arrival at Katokye gate, the drive for the tree climbing Lions will kickoff. The search will lead us to the fig trees where the mighty Lions always climb.

After our first search session, the guide will drive you to the picnic camp for Lunch. It’s from this Camp that you will be facing River Ishasha which bisects Queen Elizabeth National Park in the South from Virunga National Park of Congo. The river also harbors Hippos of which you will be viewing while enjoying your Lunch. Other mammals at your exposure will be the Olive baboons, Monitor lizards and Crocodiles.

After Lunch, the second session of game viewing is to commence. The reason for the next session is because Lions in Ishasha tend to climb when it’s hot. Here therefore have a chance to give it another try if you may have not been successful or view more since the hotter it gets the higher the chances of encountering many of them in the fig trees.

Late in the afternoon, the driver guide will drive you back to the lodge for relaxation.

Meal plan-Bush packed lunch

Day 6

After breakfast, the guide will help you checkout and drive back to Kampala. Along the way, you will pass via Igongo cultural center, the 1500 AD solar Eclipse Monument and the Equator of both the South and the Northern Hemisphere. The drive will take 7 hours to Kampala.

The guide will drop you to the area of choice and bid farewell.
